one will know one is ageing simply by observing the fashion in which his or her birthday is being celebrated:
1. instead of the usual drunken night of debauchery and decadence in a cool club like zouk, your birthday is celebrated over high tea at the swissotel's equinox with a group of friends and they are totally sober
2. one does not get receive gifts or presents like a vibrator or a dildo anymore, but will instead receive useful practical gifts like bookstore vouchers, travel suuitcases, running shoes, etc.
3. at least one of your guests at your high tea birthday celebration will have children in tow and you and everyone else will be addressed as auntie seto, uncle zai, auntie dora, uncle david, auntie karen, auntie yvonne and uncle dolphin (that's me according to felicia's little nicholas)
the cake was obviously too small to fit in 40 candles altogether... or was it 45?
and the view from the equinox was of course, to die for...
and yeah, i had a whale of a frigging good time!
