Being Beng

for the first time, i had fun today during my reservist in-camp training course. we had to learn and demonstrate a new move during our tactical unarmed combat and defense tactic class.

we played pretend. an assailant attacks a police office from the back. police officer immediately drops to the ground and curls his body and rolls on his shoulder and butt to a safe distance away from the assailant. police officer jumps back into defense position and authoritatively commands "stand back sir!".

wasn't an easy move to be honest. but i gave it a shot anyway.

assailant attacked me from behind. i dropped to the ground and curled my body and rolled on my shoulder and butt to a safe distance away from assailant. i recovered pretty fast into defense position and the unthinkable happened.

i instinctively blurted out the line "nabey cheebye! hong gan!"

the whole troop descended into chaotic laughter and delirium. the instructors dropped on their knees and guffawed their guts out while clenching their stomachs.

for the rest of the day, the troop addressed me as ah beng.

reservist training has never been this fun. i love the day i had today.
